Cat Companion

Cat Companions work directly with shelter staff to help the cats receive human companionship, play time and environmental enrichment. This is a "hands on" program for volunteers. Cleaning kennels, washing dishes and playing with cats are some examples of the duties. The cat-human interactions can help relieve stress and improves the animals' quality of life, all of which increases their chance of being adopted.

Rabbit Companion

Rabbit Companions work directly with shelter staff to ensure the rabbit kennels are clean and that the animals receive socialization, proper exercise and basic care. The rabbit-human interactions can help relieve stress and improves the animals' quality of life, all of which increases their chance of being adopted.

Pet Photographer

Photographers help AC&C promote pet adoptions by taking pictures of our animals that are available for adoption to show them at their best. The animals' photos will be posted on AC&C's website and Petfinder.com to promote AC&C's animals available for adoption. You must own your own digital camera (an SLR camera is preferred) to participate in the photography program. We also need photographers to take pictures at our special events. Photographs taken by volunteer pet photographers are deemed works for hire and considered to be owned property of AC&C.  These photos may not be used for personal or commercial gain or personal use without the express written permission of the Director of Communications of AC&C.

Care Center Volunteer Adoption Counselor

Volunteer Adoption Counselors greet and assist AC&C customers in our Care Centers. You will provide excellent customer service to potential adopters by assisting them with adoption paperwork, answering questions about animals available for adoption, giving adoption counseling and assisting with animal adoption interactions. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills and an inclusive understanding of AC&C adoption procedures and policies.

Volunteer Adoption Event Counselor

Volunteer Adoption Event Counselors attend outreach and adoption events with the purpose of educating the community about AC&C's mission, services and programs, while helping to handle the animals at the event. You will provide excellent customer service to potential adopters by assisting them with adoption paperwork, answering questions about animals available for adoption, giving adoption counseling and assisting with animal adoption interactions. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills and an inclusive understanding of AC&C adoption procedures and policies.

Administrative

Volunteers assist AC&C staff with administrative support and special projects in our administrative offices. Volunteers provide invaluable assistance by filing, data entry, making phone calls, replying to e-mails, or working on special projects.

 

Development and Special Events

Our Development Department is responsible for processing all donations and planning special event fundraisers for AC&C. Volunteers will work at special events and periodically help with office work. There is no interaction with our shelter animals, but this is a crucial role as fundraising is an enormous part of our ability to help our pets. Both committee involvement and day-of-event volunteer opportunities are available.

Marketing and Public Relations

Volunteers will work with AC&C staff on the development, coordination and implementation of marketing campaigns and other public relations duties. Tasks will be assigned according to the volunteer's level of interest and experience.

Fostering

The AC&C Foster program takes animals out of the Care Center environment and places them into the homes of caring individuals like you. You give the time and commitment so that they can be returned ready to be made available for adoption in the Care Center or at an offsite adoption event.
