School Adoption Events
AC&C is looking to partner with NYC schools who want to sponsor School Pet Adoption Events. Help us find loving homes for the animals in our care!
Classroom presentations
AC&C's Humane Educator will visit your classroom (with a dog if desired!) to discuss the homeless animal problem in NYC, and offer students positive choices that will help make NYC a place where every dog, cat, and rabbit finds a loving, permanent home.
Shelter Tours
School group tours of our shelters include interacting with some of the animals and learning about the homeless animal problem in NYC.
Summer Youth Employment
Our Teach, Love, and Compassion (TLC) Program is part of the Summer Youth Employment Program. Selected youths (ages 14 to 18) have the opportunity to work with our staff in a variety of different tasks, including kennel, medical, and administrative.

Note: Please contact us in April about this program.

Youth Volunteer Programs
If you are between the ages of 14 to 17 you have the opportunity to care for the animals in our shelters, walking the dogs, socializing the cats, ensuring cages are kept clean, and assisting potential adopters. This is a three hour weekly commitment throughout the school year.
Note: Our volunteer program is full for the 2008-2009 school year. Please contact us if you are interested in being part of this program for the 2009-2010 school year.
AC&C Youth Educators
If you are between the ages of 6 and 13 you can become an AC&C Youth Educator educating your classmates about the homeless animal problem in NYC. You will receive a tour of one of our shelters where you can spend time with some of the dogs and cats in our care. You will be provided with a brief classroom lesson and materials to share with your classmates. Our Humane Educator will review the lesson and materials with you. Bring a camera to take pictures of the animals!
Adult Volunteers Needed To Supervise Youths!
We are looking for adult volunteers to supervise the youths in our volunteer program. You would be responsible for supervising a team of four youths, providing the students with appropriate dogs to walk, ensuring that the students are properly handling the animals and cleaning the cages, and updating AC&C's Youth Coordinator on the teens' progress. The time commitment is three hours once a week or every other week. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with compassionate youths and enable them to care for the animals.
We Look Forward To Hearing From You!
For information on these programs please contact Lois Valbuena-Hannigan, AC&C Humane Educator and Volunteer Coordinator at 646-772-3499 or lvalbuena@nycacc.org.
