Want to Help Prevent Animals From Being Surrendered to
Animal Care & Control?
Want to Help People Solve The Problems They Are Having
Keeping their Pets and
Help Pets Stay With Their Families?
Animal Care & Control of New York City's (AC&C) innovative Safety Net Program offers guidance, services, and solutions to people who are having problems keeping their animal companions. The goal of the program is to help keep animals with their family by helping the family solve their problem.
Safety Net’s services include low-cost veterinarians, low-cost boarding, free and low cost behavioral training and guidance, lending of supplies, and free tenant representation in court. These and other remedies have enabled many people to keep their pets and also have helped the finders of stray animals keep or help find loving homes without entering the animal into the shelter.
VOLUNTEERS WILL BE FULLY TRAINED to either answer our Helpline or to work onsite in the shelters consulting with people considering or about to surrender their animal, with the goal of preventing the surrender. Every surrender prevented is a success, and in the process, we are educating people about permanent care for companion animals as well as about spaying and neutering.
Weekend, weekday and evening shifts available.
Helpline volunteer work takes place at the AC&C Administrative Office at 11 Park Place in downtown Manhattan OR at your home.
On-site shelter work takes place at Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens or Bronx shelters.
